From building material to office space: HIMACS creates an office landscape with personality at Wehrhahn GmbH

Wehrhahn GmbH in Delmenhorst, a manufacturer of plant machinery for the building materials industry, combines historical heritage with a forward-looking work culture in its new office building. The integration of formerly separate areas of the building has created an environment conducive to communication with a feel-good factor. HIMACS solid surface is used throughout the building in a recurrent design theme – from the impressive reception counter to the elegant kitchen island and the hygienic sanitary areas – emphasising the company's high quality spirit with various marble-inspired tones.

Wehrhahn has a proud 133-year company history. Features such as a portrait of the company founder and one the first machines they produced are on display in the foyer, bearing witness to the heritage of a family business which is now run by the fourth generation. The new office complex was intended to marry tradition with a future-oriented approach and was designed to engender a sense of unity among employees. To help realise this vision, Wehrhahn opted for the expertise of Oer Inneneinrichtungs- und Ladenbau GmbH. 

‘The project comprised the demolition of the existing buildings and the two-stage construction of a new, modern office building, created to the finest standards,’ explains Operations Manager Johannes Oer Jr, responsible for the technical planning and implementation of the construction project. ‘Our task was to design an innovative and future-orientated interior environment that meets the demands of the modern workplace. The focus was on creating a friendly, pleasant feel-good atmosphere for the employees and using superior, resistant and durable materials.’ True to their motto of creating spaces with personality, the Oer team ensured that the customised interior fittings and furniture were not only functional and visually appealing, but also had a distinctly individual touch. The focus here was on uncompromising quality – from dark lacquered wooden wall panels and light-coloured oak flooring to selected Vitra designer furniture and the elements made with HIMACS. The refined concept reflects the same commitment to quality the company has always applied to its own products.
    

The light, bright reception area welcomes visitors and employees alike with both a sense of grandeur and an inviting ambience achieved through premium materials and lustrous finishes. Beautifully harmonising with the natural oak floor, the seamless surface of the reception desk, made from HIMACS in Aurora Calacatta Fiore, impresses with its sleek, marble-like appearance. The interior design team from Oer has skilfully optimised the translucency of the solid surface material in engraving the Wehrhahn logo to the reverse of material and backlighting this to eye-catching effect. 

In addition, Wehrhahn employees  benefit from the choice of this premium solid surface for their breakout facilities The kitchen island in the spacious canteen features robust, durable HIMACS – in this case, in the subtle marble effect of Aurora Calacatta Luna. 
 

This material motif continues into the CEO's office. Both the base of the desk and the surface of the sideboard are made from HIMACS, bringing both timeless aesthetics and modern functionality to the project. The black and dark grey tones in the Aurora Midnight colour choice add a sophisticated feel and form a subtle contrast to the light oak flooring, the wood panelling on the wall and the pale furnishing elements.

The multi-talented solid surface also demonstrates its excellence in the washroom facilities of the new office building, where, Oer also fabricated the vanity top, shelves and splashback fusing HIMACS. Colour contrasts have been used to great effect here, with Aurora Calacatta Luna and its natural white with a subtle grain effect as a counterpoint to the dark tiles in certain washrooms,  while other rooms benefit from the rich black of Aurora Midnight with its discreet white flecks, creating luxurious accents.. 

The completely homogeneous and therefore water and stain resistant nature of , HIMACS also brings  hygienic benefits to these applications. The ideal choice not only for sanitary facilities, but also for the canteen, and the high-traffic reception area, the material offers outstanding properties, such as a non-porous, seamless finish that prevents the penetration and proliferation of pathogens and mould. Thanks to these qualities, the material is also particularly easy to clean and retains its flawless, luxurious look  for the long term due to its inherently robust and durable nature.
