HIMACS: OS ∆ OOS presents its new “Arc” furniture collection

OS ∆ OOS presents its new “Arc” furniture collection made from HIMACS

Dutch studio OS ∆ OOS presents Arc, a bench and stool set created in collaboration with HIMACS. This new collection was launched at the recent Design Week in Milan and comprises various interchangeable surfaces that result in different designs, producing an amazing effect reminiscent of granite.

“Naturally formed stone is not malleable, so the only way to form a shape is by taking parts of it away. HIMACS makes it possible to achieve the same visual result, with the same properties, but created in a different way, which helps achieve the desired result,” explain the designers. Thanks to its thermoformable properties, the acrylic stone makes it possible to bend the material when warm, in order to get curved shapes, providing the ability to create structures that would not be possible with natural stone.

Two common radii are the basic element in the Arc bench and stools, with the interchangeable pieces resulting in different designs. An arc is a self-supporting element, and therefore inherently stable. The Arc bench and stools are a good example of this feature, giving stability to the simple, slender shapes that characterize the object.

The products in the Arc collection were launched at the Wallpaper* Handmade space during the Milan Salone del Mobile (Furniture Fair), and are available in different finishes and configurations, all of which impress with their innate, almost unreal equilibrium.

About OS ∆ OOS

OS Δ OOS is a design studio encompassing everything from small objects to larger spatial concepts.

OS Δ OOS tries to find the balance between the shape and material, and their relationship with the surroundings and the user. It is a constant search to find the essence in the complex that drives them, taking an initial concept and working it into an object that conveys only what it is meant to.

Most of the work borders the line of design (in the industrial/ functionality sense) and autonomous objects, better described as contemporary objects derived from concept, yet rationalized to give them purpose.

Oskar Peet (NL/CAN) and Sophie Mensen (NL) are both graduates of the Design Academy Eindhoven (2009) and started up the firm OS Δ OOS in Fall 2011. They both currently live and work in the city of Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
