Pretty in Pink: HIMACS in Ruby crowns a contemporary kitchen – and Banana yellow brightens up a bathroom

In the way that a carefully composed gourmet dish delights with the freshness, flavour and colour of each ingredient, this characterful kitchen delivers an immediate ‘wow’ effect. The soft yet eye-catching Ruby tone of HIMACS lends an almost fairytale ambience to a setting that’s ideal for whipping up delicious meals, for convivial socialising, or for day-dreaming.

Light-filled and understated, this chic design in a private home in Darmstadt, Germany  captivates at first glance thanks to its unconventional colour choice. The delicate pink hue of Ruby, from the HIMACS Lucent collection, is combined with the warmth of pine, illuminating an open-plan space that seamlessly integrates living and dining areas. The contrast between this pastel blush and the kitchen’s monochrome details reveals a distinctive approach to colour and material, creating an elegant and harmonious atmosphere.

The design and execution of the kitchen, including the living and dining areas, were undertaken by Entedimension Einrichtungen, a studio renowned for its creative concepts and exceptional craftsmanship. Aiming to convey the sense of quality and clarity requested by the homeowners, while making the design accessible to everyday family life, the choice of materials was a key priority.

Mario Könecke, Director of the design studio, chose HIMACS solid surface for the cabinet fronts, bench seating and worktops, for its flawless appearance, seamless finish and high standards of hygiene. “The high-tech composition of the material is particularly well suited to kitchens and bathrooms,” says Mario, “while its aesthetic and performance is highly appreciated by our clients.”

The technical qualities of HIMACS made it possible to approach the design from a streamlined perspective, focussing on both optimal functionality and a characterful personality The worktop flows seamlessly to form a bespoke bench for the dining area. The sleek integration of these two elements owes its success to the workability and thermoformability of the premium solid surface, allowing it to be shaped as a single piece with no visible joints. This versatility also enabled the precise integration of key elements such as the induction hob and the brass sink.

Attention to detail is further reflected in the selection of fittings and finishes. The gold effect of the tap and the handles on the lower units are complemented by matt gold-effect sockets, reinforcing the chromatic coherence of the space. The pine cabinetry, equipped with push-open door mechanisms, dispense with handles wherever practical, allowing the natural grain of the wood to be expressed without interruption. Recessed LED strips and dimmable lights provide ample, controlled illumination, ideal for carefully zoned working areas.

A space designed for sharing and enjoyment

Bathed in natural light from both ends of the long and slender room, the kitchen and dining areas merge into a single welcoming and functional space, where every centimetre has been carefully considered and optimised.

The 2.6-metre-long bench seat with integrated storage, also made of HIMACS, emerges as a direct extension of the kitchen worktop, creating a visual and functional connection between each area while lending the space a subtle sculptural quality. 

This is partnered by a space-saving wooden pedestal table with ergonomically rounded edges, decorated with a botanical UV-printed ‘3D’ motif, and accompanied by pink-lacquered chairs in upholstery to match the HIMACS surfaces..

Both zones are framed by wallpaper featuring a biophilic ‘winter forest’ design in tones of black and white, which graces the walls, adding decorative glamour and a sense of visual depth. In the cooking and food preparation zones the wallpaper is protected by a glass splashback sitting between the worktops and the wall units. 

This kitchen, with which its owners are utterly delighted, demonstrates the power of creativity and flawless execution combined with a sensitive use of colour execution, and just the right materials and finishes. The result is a unique space in which the luminous depth of HIMACS in Ruby adds a delicate, memorable glow that means is its occupants are, literally, living ‘in the pink.’

 
A Bold and Vibrant Bathroom

As in the kitchen of this creative home, colour takes centre stage in the bathroom, too. Design studio Entedimension Einrichtungen has worked with the vibrant shade of Banana from the HIMACS Solids collection – a saturated, joyful yellow that transforms the room with luminous, optimistic energy.

Used for the vanity top, cabinet fronts and wall cladding, the material creates a surface continuity that enhances the visual coherence of the space. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, HIMACS offers a non-porous, seamless surface that ensures water resistance and maximum hygiene, while simplifying everyday cleaning. The material is thus particularly well suited to environments such as kitchens and bathrooms, where standards of cleanliness, durability and performance are especially demanding.
